Kiambu County – June 23, 2025 — Police are investigating a tragic workplace accident in Nderi, Kikuyu, where two supermarket employees were electrocuted while cleaning a kitchen floor on the evening of June 21.
The victims—Silas Kiprotich Keter, 36, and Peter Kinyanjui Njeri, 33—were discovered lying unresponsive in a pool of water, barefoot, and with signs of electric shock. Authorities believe they may have stepped on a wet area with an exposed live wire.
A supermarket manager found the bodies and alerted authorities. Police, along with officials from Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), visited the scene to assess possible electrical faults.
“It appears they were cleaning the kitchen when they were electrocuted. A live wire and wet surface likely created the fatal hazard,” said a police official at the scene.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary for autopsy and further examination, as authorities probe the circumstances and potential negligence behind the accident.
