Police have launched an investigation into the death of an American national whose decomposing body was discovered in a house in Nakwamekwi village, Lodwar, Turkana County.

The body of Williams Nate Zaire was found on the morning of June 7 in a room he had been occupying for several days. Authorities say preliminary information indicates that Zaire was in the region for a research mission, though the exact duration of his stay remains unclear.

According to the landlord, neighbors raised concerns about a foul odor coming from the house, prompting an inspection. When police arrived at the scene, they found Zaire’s body lying on a mattress, facing upwards, with no visible injuries. The door to the room was reportedly unlocked from the inside.

The body, which had already begun to decompose, was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy as part of ongoing investigations to determine the cause of death.
