Mutitu, Kirinyaga County – August 5, 2025 – Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating a deadly bar altercation that left a 30-year-old man dead following a stabbing incident at Fanjo Two Bar in the Ngomongo area of Mombasa Ndogo.

Victim Stabbed in the Neck During Fight

The deceased, identified as Peter Muriithi Gikunju, was stabbed in the neck during an altercation with a man known to him, police said in a statement released Tuesday.

The incident occurred at around 9:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025, in a bar that serves the local Mutitu community. According to witnesses, the confrontation escalated quickly before the suspect drew a knife from his pocket and fatally stabbed Gikunju, leaving him bleeding on the ground.

Members of the public who were at the scene rushed the victim to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Assailant on the Run

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after the attack. Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the assailant to come forward. You can report anonymously through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) tip line or at any nearby police station.

“The motive behind the attack is still under investigation. However, preliminary findings indicate the two had a prior relationship,” a police officer familiar with the case told sauce.co.ke.

Rising Cases of Bar-Related Violence

This incident adds to the growing number of bar-related violent crimes in Kenya, with alcohol-fueled altercations often ending in tragedy. According to a Nation Africa crime report, interpersonal violence remains one of the leading causes of homicide in rural  areas.

Local Leaders Call for Action

Community leaders in Kirinyaga are calling on authorities to increase patrols and surveillance around entertainment joints. They also urged bar owners to employ more security personnel and install surveillance cameras.
