Mombasa, Kenya — Police in Mombasa have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of drug trafficking after intercepting a massive haul of marijuana.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the operation followed a public tip-off about a suspicious parcel on a bus that had arrived at Mwembe Tayari bus station from Homa Bay.

The suspects, identified as Pamela Akinyi Ochichi and Daniel Agolla Ogwen, were apprehended at the booking office after they claimed the package. Upon inspection, officers discovered a 90-kilogram gunny bag filled with multiple rolls of cannabis sativa.

“The package was found to contain multiple rolls of cannabis sativa,” DCI said in a statement, sharing photos of the suspects alongside the seized drugs.

The duo is currently being held at Mombasa Central Police Station pending arraignment in court.

Authorities have urged the public to continue sharing information that could help curb drug trafficking in the coastal city.
