‘Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially declared his intention to contest the presidency in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Gachagua affirmed his determination to be on the ballot, citing his experience and confidence in securing nationwide support.

“I am a candidate to be president of the Republic of Kenya. I’m qualified, I have support, and I am looking for more. I will be on the ballot as a candidate for President,” he said.

Gachagua Defends His Eligibility

Questions have been raised about Gachagua’s impeachment and pending legal battles, but he insists they do not disqualify him from running.

“The Constitution guarantees your right to vie for elective office even if you have been convicted, provided you have not exhausted legal remedies. The Supreme Court has not ruled on my impeachment,” he explained.

Opposition Flagbearer Ambition

Gachagua is among key opposition leaders eyeing the presidential ticket in 2027. His entry into the race is expected to shake up the political landscape, as parties begin strategizing ahead of the high-stakes election.
