A Spanish man has sparked outrage in Kenya after posting videos of himself pouring Tusker beer down an elephant’s trunk at the Ol Jogi Conservancy in Laikipia. The clips, which circulated widely on Instagram before being deleted, showed the tourist drinking from a Tusker can before offering the remainder to the elephant with the caption: “Just a tusker with a tusked friend.”
The incident triggered widespread condemnation online, with conservationists and Kenyans calling the act irresponsible and disrespectful.
BBC Verifies the Video
The BBC analysed the footage and confirmed its authenticity, identifying the landscape and a well-known bull elephant at Ol Jogi. The elephant in the video is believed to be Bupa. He’s a rescued male brought to the conservancy in 1989 from Zimbabwe after a mass elephant cull.
Investigations Underway
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has launched an investigation into the incident.
The tourist, who identifies himself online under the alias Skydive_Kenya, has built a following as an “adrenaline junkie” on TikTok and Instagram. In other clips, he is seen feeding elephants carrots at Ol Jogi and offering a rhino snacks at the nearby Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Ol Jogi’s Conservation Efforts
Ol Jogi Conservancy is home to around 500 elephants and is globally recognized for rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned wildlife.
Public Outcry
Kenyans online have demanded accountability, calling for the man’s arrest and tighter enforcement of wildlife protection laws. Conservationists warn that alcohol can harm elephants, disrupt their digestion, and encourage dangerous human-animal interactions.
