Nairobi, Kenya – A man from Tassia Estate has made an emotional plea to the Makadara Law Courts, seeking protection from his estranged wife whom he accuses of repeated domestic abuse.

Victor Kimuyu told Chief Magistrate Beatrice Kimemia that despite securing a court order from the Family Division barring his wife, Jackyline Kivele Munguti, from his home, the harassment has continued.

“I am a victim of gender-based violence and I am unable to defend myself because of my frailty,” Kimuyu told the court.

Kimuyu and Munguti both faced charges of assault.

The incident is said to have happened on June 19 at his Tassia residence in Embakasi East, Nairobi.

Violent Confrontation in Tassia Estate

According to court testimony, Kimuyu returned home around 5:00 pm to find some of his furniture missing. When Munguti later arrived, a quarrel erupted, escalating into a physical fight.

Neighbours intervened to rescue Kimuyu before the matter was reported at the Tassia police post.

Munguti, however, denied assaulting her husband, claiming she acted in self-defense.

Children Caught in the Crossfire

Kimuyu pleaded for lenient bail terms, citing the need to care for his three children—aged 16, 10, and 4—who are currently under the care of a home assistant hired by his uncle.

“She has neglected me and the children. I suffer from a chronic condition, making it hard for me to defend myself,” he added.

Kimuyu further alleged that his wife’s violent outbursts often occurred in front of their children, traumatising them.

Court’s Ruling

The magistrate granted Kimuyu release on a cash bail of Sh8,000 pending mention of the case on September 4.

Munguti was released on a Sh100,000 bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh30,000.
