DCP Withdraws from Mbeere North By-Election, Endorses DP Candidate

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has officially withdrawn from the upcoming Mbeere North parliamentary by-election, endorsing the Democratic Party (DP) candidate ahead of the November 27, 2025, polls.

In a statement issued at the party headquarters on Wednesday, party leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said the decision was guided by the need to foster unity among like-minded partners within the United Opposition as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Strategic Alliances Ahead of 2027

“The move is aimed at building cordial relations and ensuring we consolidate support across regions,” Gachagua stated.

Beyond Mbeere North, the DCP leader also announced further endorsements:

  • Wiper Party candidate for the Muguuni ward seat in Machakos County.
  • DAP-K candidate for the Kapchai/Chwele ward in Bungoma County.

United Opposition Strategy

Political analysts suggest the move is part of a wider strategy by opposition parties to avoid splitting votes and to strengthen their influence ahead of 2027.

The by-election in Mbeere North was triggered following the nullification of the previous results by the courts earlier this year.
