Eight police officers attached to Maseno Police Station have been arrested over the mysterious disappearance of a Toyota Land Cruiser from the station’s parking yard.
The vehicle had earlier been recovered after it was found abandoned at Maseno shopping centre on September 10. However, it later went missing from police custody, sparking investigations.
According to a police report, the officers were linked to the disappearance of the vehicle and subsequently arrested on Monday evening by a team of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Nairobi.
The suspects, currently detained at Kisumu Central Police Station, are expected to face further interrogation and possible charges once investigations are complete.
Those arrested include:
- Police Constable Shaban Omar
- Police Constable Stanley Kosgei
- Police Constable Fredrick Lubatse
- Police Constable Harrison Muchiri
- Police Constable Charles Mutahi
- Police Constable Jackson Lugadili
- Police Constable Elphas Sigoi
- Police Constable Isaac Kipgeno
Authorities have not yet revealed the motive behind the alleged theft, but the incident has raised concerns about corruption and accountability within the police service.
The officers remain in custody as the DCI continues investigations.
