Authorities are investigating a shocking incident at Litein High School where students allegedly stormed the bursar’s office during a riot and made away with millions of shillings.

According to police reports, the rioting students invaded the office on Sunday night, carried away a 69kg electric safe box, and later broke it open. Inside was at least KSh2 million, which has since vanished.

The circumstances surrounding the unrest remain unclear, but investigators are working closely with the school administration to establish how the students organized the raid and whether outsiders were involved.

Security officials say the theft is one of the boldest acts of student unrest witnessed in recent years. The incident has sparked public concern about the growing wave of school riots in Kenya, often linked to grievances over administration decisions, exam pressure, or indiscipline.

Kericho County police confirmed that they are pursuing leads to recover the stolen funds and bring those responsible to justice.
