Nairobi, Kenya – September 2025 – Kenyan singer Maureen Kunga has reassured fans that celebrated Afro-pop group Elani is still intact, despite years of silence from the trio.
Speaking in a radio interview, the 36-year-old clarified that Elani had not broken up but instead allowed each member to explore individual projects.
“Elani is not dead and cannot die. It’s the same people; we love each other to death. That is why they were happy to feature in this and happy to support me,” Kunga said while discussing her latest single Majaliwa, which features her bandmates Brian Chweya and Wambui Ngugi.
Kunga further hinted at the possibility of a group comeback:
“Should we find ourselves in a space where we will release another together, wonderful and great.”
Formed in Nairobi, Elani rose to stardom with chart-topping hits such as Milele, Zuzu, Joto, Jana Usiku, Nikupende, and Sirudi, earning a loyal following in Kenya and across East Africa.
Her return with Majaliwa marks a fresh chapter in her solo career while keeping the group’s legacy alive.
