Detectives in Kiambu Sub-County have rescued a kidnapping victim in Ruaka and arrested five suspects in a swift, intelligence-led operation.
Distress Call and Ransom Demand
The ordeal began when the victim’s girlfriend received a distress call from his phone. Instead of hearing his voice, an unknown caller demanded Ksh 500,000 ransom for his release. Alarmed, she immediately reported the incident to authorities.
Victim Rescued, Suspects Arrested
Acting on intelligence, officers traced the suspects to Ithanga, where they found the victim with visible injuries and wearing a blood-stained shirt.
Police arrested five suspects identified as:
- Sydney Ezra Achanda
- John Louise Omondi
- Enock Sum Cheruyot
- Peter Kanini Mwangi
- Lucy Sara Muhonja
The arrests were made near Quickmart Thindigua.
Evidence Recovered
Two vehicles linked to the kidnapping — a Suzuki Swift (KDD 841D) and a Mazda Demio (KDP 468Y) — were impounded. A search revealed:
- A kitchen knife
- 10 assorted mobile phones
- A tablet
- Other suspected crime-related items
Investigations further revealed the gang had already extorted Ksh 68,000 in ransom payments before their arrest.
Next Steps
Police confirmed the suspects are in custody and will be arraigned in court once processing is complete.
