Outrage as Mogadishu Fans Desecrate Kenyan Flag After CAF Champions League Match

Viral videos from the CAF Champions League clash between Kenya Police FC and Mogadishu City FC have sparked nationwide outrage after some Mogadishu supporters were filmed desecrating the Kenyan flag in shocking displays of disrespect.

Kenya Police secured a 3-1 victory in the Saturday night encounter, but the result was quickly overshadowed by disturbing scenes widely shared on TikTok and X.

Viral Videos Spark Anger

One video shows two Mogadishu fans mocking the Kenyan flag: one spreads it on the ground, kicks it up, and the other rubs it across his crotch as they laugh hysterically. In another clip, a fan dressed in a traditional Somali sarong casually grabs a flag from a Kenya Police supporter and throws it to the ground.

Another tense moment captured on video shows commotion in the stands after a Mogadishu fan attempted to raise the Somali flag while surrounded by Kenya Police fans. The scene quickly escalated into a scuffle before security intervened.

Kenyans React

The clips triggered furious reactions online, with many terming the acts as blatant disrespect to a national symbol of unity. Others, however, urged restraint, warning against generalizing the incident to the wider Somali community.

“This is an insult to our national pride. CAF must take action against such behavior,” one Kenyan fan posted on X.

What Next?

The incident now raises questions about CAF’s disciplinary response and whether sanctions could be imposed on Mogadishu City FC due to the conduct of its supporters.
