Police in Kakamega shot and killed a suspected robber after a foiled break-in at Ampel Hotel, near Bukhungu Stadium, early Monday morning.
Distress Call at 3 AM
According to police reports, the incident happened at around 3:00 am when officers received a distress call that armed thugs were raiding the hotel.
Upon arrival, police found three suspects who had overpowered a guard, broken the front door, and were in the process of stealing valuables.
Items Stolen Before Police Response
The suspects had already grabbed:
- A 32-inch television set
- Eight sufurias (cooking pots)
- Two curtains
- Several bottles of alcohol
Police Confrontation in Nearby Bush
Police pursued the gang into a nearby bush, where a confrontation ensued. One suspect was shot dead, another surrendered, while the third managed to escape.
Authorities recovered two pangas, a metal rod, and all the stolen property.
Investigations Underway
The body of the deceased was taken to the Kakamega County mortuary for an autopsy. Investigations are ongoing as police hunt down the remaining suspect.
