Police in Uthiru, Kiambu County, have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 29-year-old woman, whose body was found hidden under a heap of clothes inside her house.
The deceased, Janet Wanjiku Njeri, was discovered by her mother on Tuesday morning in their two-bedroom home in the Gichagi area, after she went to look for clothes to dress Njeri’s two young children for school.
According to police reports, the mother said she was shocked to find her daughter’s lifeless body concealed under clothes in one of the bedrooms.
“I was preparing the children for school and looking for their clothes when I stumbled upon her body,” the distraught mother told police.
She explained that she had left for work on Monday morning, leaving her daughter at home. When she returned later in the evening, Njeri was nowhere to be found, and her phone had been switched off.
The family assumed she was working a late shift — only to make the tragic discovery the next morning.
Police said the body had visible facial injuries, suggesting a possible struggle before the murder. Detectives believe the woman may have been killed inside the house before the suspect attempted to conceal the body.
The body was moved to the City Mortuary for a postmortem examination, as detectives from Kabete Police Station pursue leads into the gruesome killing.
Authorities are also questioning neighbours and close acquaintances to establish the circumstances surrounding the young mother’s death.
