Residents of Samoget village in Bomet East Sub-County are reeling from shock after a 25-year-old woman allegedly hacked her boyfriend to death following a dispute over a mobile phone.
According to Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa, the suspect, identified as Faith Cherono, visited her boyfriend’s home on Tuesday to demand the return of a phone she claimed belonged to her.
An argument reportedly ensued, though the couple later agreed to settle the issue later in the day. However, witnesses said the two were later seen walking together towards the Mau Forest area, where tragedy struck.
Fatal Attack in Mau Forest
Police investigations revealed that Cherono allegedly attacked her boyfriend, Emanuel Kiprono, 33, striking him on the back of the head with a sword, killing him instantly.
After the assault, Cherono is said to have fled the scene and crossed into Narok County, where she later surrendered herself at Tendwet Police Station.
Officers responding to the scene recovered Kiprono’s body, which had a deep cut at the back of the head. The remains were taken to Tenwek Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody, and investigations into the fatal confrontation are ongoing.
Rising Cases of Domestic Violence
The incident adds to the growing number of domestic violence-related murders in Kenya, which authorities have described as a worrying trend. Police have urged couples to seek mediation or counseling when resolving disputes instead of resorting to violence.
