Former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua has died. While the cause of his death is still unknown, the former journalist has been battling mental illness for close to three years now.
In may, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has once again stepped in to offer help to the journalist after a video of him in a deplorable state was circulated on social media.
Sonko, who had previously taken Kimani to a rehabilitation center, expressed disappointment over his recent struggles but reaffirmed his commitment to helping him recover.
Through his social media, Sonko revealed that his Sonko Rescue Team had successfully tracked down Kimani in Makongeni Estate, Thika, Kiambu County.
“He was found in Makongeni estate, Thika, Kiambu County. He was brought to our headquarters, where we are currently overseeing his well-being after providing him with new clothing and allowing him to take a refreshing shower,” Sonko shared.
Sonko also engaged Kimani in an extensive counselling session before deciding to offer him another chance at rehabilitation.
“I have chosen not to involve Kimani’s family at this stage, but I will ensure that he remains at the rehabilitation centre. Upon his full recovery, he will have the opportunity to work there, similarly to Conjestina Achieng, who has been discharged and offered a position to provide counselling services at the center,” Sonko added.
