Citizen TV reporter John Wanyama has resigned from Royal Media Services (RMS) after nearly 11 years at the media house to pursue a political career ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wanyama confirmed his decision in his resignation letter, saying he intends to venture into public service by contesting for the Malava Constituency parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections.

Royal Media Services has since accepted his resignation.

His Certificate of Service shows that Wanyama worked for the media company from September 1, 2015, until August 3, 2026. He served as a reporter and cameraperson and was based in Eldoret.

His departure makes him the first RMS employee to publicly announce an exit from the media house specifically to pursue an elective political position ahead of the 2027 polls.

Wanyama’s move comes as several journalists and media personalities increasingly position themselves for political careers as the next General Election approaches.

Among those associated with RMS who have reportedly been linked to possible political bids are journalists Trevor Ombija, Lulu Hassan, Tina Ogal and Michael Njenga.

Wanyama will now shift from covering political and community affairs as a journalist to seeking the Malava parliamentary seat, where he hopes to begin a new chapter in public service.
