Nyanza, Kenya – Wednesday, October 8, 2025
Mama Ida Odinga, the wife of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, has firmly dismissed viral rumours circulating on social media claiming that the former Prime Minister is unwell.
Speaking during a function in Nyanza, Ida assured Kenyans that Raila Odinga is in good health and urged the public to ignore false reports being spread online.
“Raila Odinga is fine,” she said. “Someone who is not staying with him knows that Raila is sick, yet I don’t know?”
Ida questioned how individuals who do not live with the ODM leader could claim knowledge of his alleged illness, emphasizing that she was unaware of any such condition.
Her remarks came after widespread speculation on social media suggested that the Azimio la Umoja leader had fallen ill — prompting concern among supporters and political observers.
The Odinga family’s statement follows ODM’s own clarification earlier this week, which also dismissed the health claims and confirmed that Raila had travelled abroad on official engagements.
Raila, a veteran opposition leader and African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship candidate, has maintained a low public profile in recent days, fueling speculation that the family now seeks to put to rest.
