Former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga will be laid to rest today at his ancestral home in Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Bondo Constituency, Siaya County.

Thousands of mourners have already gathered at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), where a public funeral ceremony is underway before the private interment.

Final Resting Place Beside His Parents

After the ceremony, Raila Odinga will be interred beside his late father, Kenya’s first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and his mother, Mary Ajuma Odinga, marking the end of a historic chapter in Kenya’s political journey.

Security has been intensified across the region as dignitaries, international guests, and local leaders attend the emotional farewell.

Raila Odinga’s Passing in India

Odinga passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while receiving treatment at Devamatha Hospital in Kerala, India. His body was flown back to Kenya on Thursday, October 16, and received with a hero’s welcome at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Thousands lined the streets of Nairobi and Kisumu to pay their final respects to the veteran opposition leader, whose political career spanned more than four decades.

Nation in Mourning

Since his death, Kenya has witnessed an outpouring of grief and unity from citizens, politicians, and world leaders. Odinga is celebrated for his tireless fight for democracy, human rights, and multiparty politics in Kenya.

Flags continue to fly at half-mast nationwide, as Kenyans prepare to bid farewell to one of the country’s most influential figures.
