Kenyan media personality Oga Obinna has raised alarm over alleged threats to his life ahead of the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga scheduled for Sunday in Bondo, Siaya County.
In a statement released late Saturday through his management team, Obinna claimed that certain political figures have allegedly hired goons to harm him as he attends the high-profile funeral of the veteran opposition leader.
Alleged Threats Linked to Raila Odinga’s Burial
“Obinna TV Studios has come to learn that certain leaders have paid goons to harm Oga Obinna as he attends the burial of the late Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga in Bondo this Sunday,” part of the statement read.
The statement further clarified that Obinna has always advocated for peace, dialogue, and respect for diverse political opinions. “He condemns all forms of violence in the strongest terms and stands for understanding and accommodation,” it added.
Call for Police Protection and Calm
Obinna’s management team urged law enforcement agencies, including the Kenya Police Service and the DCI, to investigate the threats and ensure maximum security during the funeral, which is expected to draw thousands of mourners, political leaders, and foreign dignitaries.
“We call for peace and understanding while honouring this solemn event. We urge the Kenya Police Service and DCI to heighten vigilance, bolster security, and investigate these threats promptly to protect all involved,” the team stated.
The statement concluded with the Luo expression “Erokamano” (thank you) — a call for peace and unity during the national mourning period.
Security Tight in Bondo
Security has been heightened in Bondo and surrounding areas ahead of Raila Odinga’s burial, with police deploying additional personnel to manage traffic and crowd control.
The National Police Service (NPS) has assured the public of adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful send-off for the former premier, whose death has drawn condolences from across the globe.
