TRANS NZOIA, Kenya — Detectives in Kiminini Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of fatally assaulting a farm worker following a dispute over a mobile phone.
The suspect, Samuel Kemboi, was arrested in Tawai Village, Wamuini Sub-location, after detectives, officers from Kiungani Police Station and members of the public pursued him.
According to a report filed at Kiungani Police Station, the victim, 22-year-old Stephen Ndungu, had been hired as a farmhand just a day before the incident.
Police said a disagreement broke out between Ndungu and Kemboi over a mobile phone on the afternoon of August 24, 2026.
The argument reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Kemboi allegedly struck Ndungu several times.
Ndungu collapsed during the assault and died at the scene.
Responding officers documented visible injuries on the deceased’s head, face and stomach.
Suspect in Police Custody
Kemboi remains in police custody as detectives from Kiminini Sub-County continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Police are expected to complete the investigations before the suspect is taken to court to face charges.
Meanwhile, Ndungu’s body has been transferred to Kiminini Cottage Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
