Activist and fitness trainer Shakira Wafula has resigned from her role within the David Maraga presidential campaign, citing widening differences in values, priorities, and the direction the team is taking ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wafula, who served as Secretary of the Political Committee, announced her immediate departure through a public statement released on November 17, 2025.
In her message, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the Maraga campaign, saying her time in the secretariat offered meaningful insight into how political systems work and the collective effort required to build a Kenya anchored in the rule of law, accountability, and good governance.
However, Wafula noted that after “careful reflection,” she found it necessary to step down from all duties linked to the campaign.
She explained that while the campaign continues to champion the slogan “Reset, Restore, and Rebuild,” achieving those ideals requires deeper internal alignment—an alignment she felt was no longer present.
Wafula wished the remaining team members success as they continue engaging Kenyans ahead of the 2027 polls, emphasising that integrity, transparency, and collaboration should guide their work.
