Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended a suspected cryptocurrency scammer identified as Bavon Onyancha Masese in Kiamunyi, Nakuru County.

Masese, who has operated under aliases including Abdirahaman Abdikarim and Jamie Damon, is accused of defrauding a Kilifi woman of Ksh.3.9 million. The DCI said this case brought him onto their radar, prompting a targeted investigation and manhunt that ultimately led to his capture.

Further investigations revealed Masese was linked to multiple digital transactions and unlawful cryptocurrency operations, allegedly used to defraud victims across Kenya. He is now facing prosecution at the Kilifi Law Courts.

The suspect is set to face multiple charges, including:

  • Money laundering
  • Unauthorised registration of SIM cards
  • Obtaining money by false pretence
  • Conspiracy to defraud

The DCI continues to urge the public to report suspicious digital financial activities and warns against falling victim to similar cryptocurrency scams.
