Police in Migori Town are investigating a shocking domestic violence incident in which a couple was seriously injured after a violent altercation at their rental house on Saturday night.

According to police reports, the husband allegedly attempted to kill his wife by slashing her throat before turning the knife on himself in an apparent suicide attempt. Both sustained severe neck and hand injuries and were rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses said the fight began inside their home before the woman fled to her sister’s nearby house, with her husband in pursuit.

“The suspect locked the door and attacked his wife, stabbing her several times in the thighs and cutting off three of her fingers before attempting to slit her throat,” police said.

As neighbors tried to break down the door, the man allegedly turned the knife on himself, inflicting deep cuts to his own neck.

Residents Intervened

Residents managed to force the door open and rescued the couple before rushing them to Migori County Referral Hospital for emergency treatment.

Police said they are awaiting the couple’s recovery before recording their statements and determining the appropriate legal action.

Rising Cases of Domestic Violence

Authorities have expressed concern over the growing number of domestic violence cases reported in Migori and other parts of Kenya.
Police are urging couples to seek counseling or mediation to resolve disputes instead of resorting to violence.
