Police in Elgeyo Marakwet County are investigating a tragic family dispute that turned deadly after a man allegedly stabbed and killed his brother during a quarrel over land in Metkei area.
According to police reports, the confrontation occurred on Saturday, November 1, when the suspect engaged his brother, Daniel Kiplagat, in a heated argument that quickly escalated into violence.
Kiplagat was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife and collapsed just outside their father’s homestead, where he succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect attacked the deceased with a kitchen knife following a dispute over family land,” police said.
Suspect on the Run
The assailant fled immediately after the attack, prompting an intense manhunt by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Keiyo South.
The body of the deceased has been moved to the Iten County Referral Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Rising Family Feuds
Authorities noted that the killing adds to a string of violent family disputes and land-related homicides reported across different parts of Kenya in recent weeks.
Police have urged residents to seek mediation through local elders, chiefs, or legal channels to resolve domestic and land conflicts peacefully.
