Siaya Senator and ODM leader Oburu Oginga has returned to Kenya after a brief break in Dubai. His arrival comes amid public speculation about his health and his recent assumption of ODM party leadership.
Oburu Oginga landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, where he was received by ODM officials led by Nyakach MP Joshua Aduma Owuor. Immediately after landing, Oburu Oginga proceeded to the Lee Funeral Home to view the body of his younger sister, Beryl Achieng’ Odinga, who passed away on Tuesday in Nairobi after an illness.
According to his son, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, the senator’s short stay in Dubai was purely for rest and recovery following a hectic political and family period.
“There have been speculations about the health of Oburu Oginga,” Jaoko said, noting that the veteran politician had endured weeks of nonstop duties. “He has not had time to rest or even mourn his own brother, the late Raila Odinga. The Dubai trip was only meant to give him space to recharge.”
Oburu’s absence came shortly after he assumed the ODM leadership following Raila Odinga’s death. During that time, he led critical funeral arrangements, oversaw the party’s 20th-anniversary events, and joined campaign activities, including the Kasipul by-election.
Family members have dismissed rumours about Oburu Oginga’s health, clarifying that his Dubai hiatus was simply a much-needed break.
