Kenyan hip-hop star Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has officially announced that he will contest the Kibra Parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

The celebrated rapper made the announcement on Tuesday, November 4, via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, saying his name will be on the ballot come 2027.

“I have heard your request, and inshallah you will see my name on the ballot in Kibra,” Octopizzo wrote, responding to a fan who urged him to continue the legacy of the late Raila Odinga by fighting for social justice.

Raila’s Death ‘Shook the System’ — Octopizzo

The “Noma Ni” hitmaker said the passing of Raila Odinga has unsettled Kenya’s political landscape, leaving both the opposition and government in disarray.

“Raila Odinga steps back, and the whole system shakes. ODM is kind of confused, opposition is scattered, and even the government looks lost,” he stated.

Octopizzo argued that many politicians had depended on Raila’s influence rather than their own conviction, adding that the current political class lacks authenticity.

“Turns out many weren’t leaders; they were just echoing Baba for tribal applause and fake validation. Now the script is gone, politics feels like survival mode till 2027 — no direction, no conviction, just noise,” he said.

Call for a New Generation of Leaders

Octopizzo, who grew up in Kibra, has long been an advocate for youth empowerment and social justice.

He urged young Kenyans to step forward and run for political office, saying the nation needs courageous and visionary leadership.

“It’s time for young leaders to rise. Kenya deserves people who lead with conviction, not fear,” he wrote.

Background

Octopizzo has used his music and public platforms to speak about inequality, slum empowerment, and education for underprivileged youth. He runs several community initiatives in Kibra, including art and mentorship programs for children from informal settlements.

His entry into politics is expected to shake up the Kibra race, which has historically been dominated by ODM candidates. Political analysts say his grassroots connection and influence among urban youth could make him a formidable contender in 2027.
