At least six people have died following a horrific road accident at Ngoluni along the Itangini–Tawa road in Mbooni East, Makueni County.

According to Mbooni East Sub-County Commander Iphrahim Karani, the crash happened when a lorry speeding toward Tawa lost control and rammed into a 14-seater matatu that was parked at a stage. Five people died instantly, while a sixth victim passed away while being rushed to hospital.

Eleven other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to Makueni Sub-County Hospital and nearby health facilities for treatment.

Among those who lost their lives was a student who was heading home after completing the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, adding to the tragedy of the incident.

Authorities have launched investigations into the accident as families and the community grapple with the heartbreaking loss.
