A 30-year-old father of three, Antony Otieno, was found brutally murdered at Meridian Apartments in South B, Nairobi, in what detectives believe was a planned setup disguised as a phone delivery.
Antony, a delivery rider, had been dispatched to drop off a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max—a routine job that turned into a deadly trap.
Body Found Under Bed, Bound and Gagged
Police discovered Antony’s body hidden under the bed in house no. 14, fourth floor.
He had been tied at the hands and legs, with a leso tightly wrapped over his mouth.
A pool of blood lay beneath him, consistent with injuries from blunt force trauma to the head, according to the autopsy.
Inside the room, detectives recovered:
- A knife
- A metal rod, believed to be the murder weapon
- The iPhone 17 Pro Max Antony had been delivering
His motorcycle, registration KMFH 161S, was still parked outside the apartment.
A Delivery Request That Turned Suspicious
Investigations show the order was placed via WhatsApp using the number 0108577041 by a man claiming to be in Eldoret.
He instructed Antony to deliver the phone to Meridian Apartments, where his “brother,” identified as Hillary, would collect it.
The caller insisted that payment would be made after delivery—a common but risky arrangement.
Antony left a shop in Nairobi CBD at around 10:30am to complete the delivery. That was the last time he was seen alive.
Airbnb Host Speaks: “What I Found Was Horrifying”
The apartment had been booked earlier that morning by two unidentified men, who paid Ksh. 2,500 in cash.
Airbnb host Charity Muthoni Michoki said she received a message around 9:30am promising that the balance would be settled in the evening. When she later went to check the apartment, one of the men tried to stop her and asked her to return later.
Sensing something was wrong, she sought help from neighbours. They forced the door open—only to find the bedroom floor splattered with blood and Antony’s body hidden beneath the bed.
Identity Tracing Underway
Police have forwarded the two phone numbers used by the suspects—0108577041 and 0783041879—to Safaricom for tracing.
Detectives believe the killing was a well-planned robbery setup, with the promise of a high-value handset used to lure Antony into the apartment.
A manhunt for the suspects is ongoing.
