Nairobi, Kenya – Controversial political commentator Maverick Aoko has broken her silence following Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s public denial that he is behind attacks targeting the Odinga family, escalating an already heated online exchange.
In a strongly worded statement, Aoko claimed she possesses “even deeper intel” on the unfolding controversy and made a dramatic appeal to the public for protection, revealing for the first time that she is pregnant.
Aoko accused Babu Owino of attempting to silence and “gag” her, warning that such actions would not stop her from speaking out. She further suggested that the Luo community must confront difficult internal conversations, hinting at unresolved political and generational tensions.
“We need painful conversations once and for all,” she said, signaling that the dispute goes beyond personal differences and into broader political dynamics.
Her remarks came shortly after Babu Owino distanced himself from claims that he was using Aoko to attack members of the Odinga family. In his response, the MP described Aoko as an independent thinker and a longtime supporter, insisting he has never instructed her to insult or target the Odingas.
“Aoko is my friend and my fierce supporter, but she is independent-minded. I have never told her to attack the Odinga family,” Owino stated.
Babu further emphasized his close relationship with the Odinga family, naming Winnie Odinga, Raila Odinga Jr., and Rosemary Odinga as personal friends. He also spoke warmly of Mama Ida Odinga, saying she treats him like a son.
“I can never insult such a mum. She’s been good to me, and I love her,” he said.
The public spat has ignited intense debate on social media, with Kenyans divided over loyalty, free speech, political influence, and the safety of outspoken commentators—especially given Aoko’s emotional plea and pregnancy revelation.
