A sombre mood has engulfed Kamagambo A village in Suna, Migori County, after a 27-year-old man was found dead with self-inflicted stab wounds just hours after his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter died in hospital.
Police identified the man as Kennedy Omondi Ouru, whose body was discovered on Sunday evening inside a house, a knife loosely held in his right hand.
Daughter Dies After Disciplinary Incident Gone Wrong
According to police, Omondi had allegedly been disciplining his daughter at their home when the child suddenly lost consciousness. She was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Upon learning of her death, Omondi reportedly fled from the homestead in distress.
Father Found With Stab Wounds Believed to Be Self-Inflicted
Hours later, villagers alerted authorities after discovering Omondi’s body lying inside a house with stab wounds to the left ribs. Police say the wounds appeared self-inflicted, pointing to a suspected suicide.
The tragic incident unfolded on December 7, leaving the community reeling from the double loss.
Bodies Taken to Mortuary for Postmortem
Both bodies have been moved to the local mortuary as detectives prepare for postmortem examinations and further investigations into the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
Police have urged members of the public to seek peaceful conflict-resolution methods and to report any signs of distress or domestic strain before situations escalate.
