A member of the National Police Reserve (NPR) has been arrested after shooting and killing a man in Mandera County.

The incident occurred on December 23, 2025, in the Soko Mbuzi area, where the reservist allegedly shot the victim after claiming he knew the man had committed an offence.

Police reports indicate that the victim was shot in the thigh and later bled to death before receiving medical assistance.

Following the incident, the NPR officer was arrested and disarmed as investigations commenced. He is currently being held for questioning as detectives pursue a murder probe.

The deceased’s body was transferred to a local mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination and other legal procedures.

Authorities have not disclosed further details as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continue.
