Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a man and a woman in connection with a shocking incident in which two men were drugged and robbed of cash, mobile phones and jewellery in Sagana town.

According to police, the suspects were traced to Juja, Kiambu County, where they were arrested while in possession of the victims’ mobile phones and five additional phones believed to have been stolen in similar incidents.

Victims Found Unconscious

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two victims had travelled from Nairobi to Sagana on December 31, 2025, where they checked into Maya Gardens Hotel.

While at the hotel, the men were reportedly joined by two women. However, the situation later took a disturbing turn when the victims were found unconscious the following day at around 4pm in the Sagana area.

Upon regaining consciousness, the men discovered that their cash, mobile phones and jewellery were missing.

The incident was reported to police, prompting investigations that led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.

Suspects Arrested in Juja

Police identified the suspects as Annex Wambui Njoroge, aged 37, and Paul Mwangi Chege, aged 44.

During the arrest, officers recovered the stolen phones belonging to the victims, alongside other devices suspected to have been obtained through criminal activity.

Victims Hospitalised

The two victims were rushed to hospital for medical attention after the suspected stupefaction, where they are reported to be responding well to treatment, police said.

Investigations Ongoing

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish whether additional suspects were involved and to determine if the duo is linked to a wider drugging and robbery syndicate targeting unsuspecting victims.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to stealing and stupefying.

Authorities have urged members of the public to exercise caution when socialising with strangers, especially during festive seasons when such crimes tend to increase.
