Police have arrested a woman suspected of poisoning her three children at Mlolongo Phase Three Estate in Machakos County.
According to Athi River East Sub-County Police Commander Anderson Mbae, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday along Police Road within Mlolongo Township by officers from Mlolongo Police Station after she allegedly fled the scene following the incident.
Mbae said the tragic incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday night at the family’s residence, though the exact time remains unclear. The matter was reported to police hours later on Monday as a suspected murder.
Upon visiting the scene, police found the woman’s three children lying dead inside the house, with foam emanating from their mouths. The victims included one-year-old twin sisters, who were found on a bed, and a four-year-old boy, who was discovered lying in a baby cot.
“It is suspected that the children were poisoned using a mixture of Vim detergent,” Mbae said.
Officers documented the scene and collected samples for forensic analysis before transferring the bodies to the City Mortuary, where postmortem examinations are expected to determine the exact cause of death.
The suspect is currently being held at Mlolongo Police Station as investigations continue.
