A 25-year-old Kenyan man has sparked debate online after tattooing the face of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino across his back in a bold show of admiration.
Marcelo Bahati said his decision was inspired by what he described as the legislator’s “good work to the people” and “true leadership.”
“Namtambua Sana Babu,” Says Bahati
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Bahati explained that he strongly identifies with Babu Owino’s leadership style and considers him the only politician he genuinely believes in.
“Namtambua sana Babu,” Bahati said, emphasizing his admiration for the Embakasi East MP.
He added that the tattoo was a personal choice rooted in his belief that the lawmaker has consistently stood up for ordinary Kenyans.
KSh 25,000 Tattoo and One-Month Recovery Plan
Bahati revealed that he paid KSh 25,000 for the large back tattoo. Following the procedure, he is currently on a one-month course of daily medications prescribed to aid the healing process and prevent infection.
Despite the bold move, Bahati said the decision was entirely his own.
Family Supports His Decision
The 25-year-old noted that his family — including his spouse and their child — understands and supports his admiration for the MP.
“My family understands why I did this,” he said. “It’s personal, and I believe in the work he is doing for ordinary Kenyans.”
Social Media Reactions
The tattoo has since drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising Bahati’s loyalty and others questioning the extent of political fandom.
The incident adds to a growing trend of Kenyans publicly expressing support for leaders through symbolic gestures, including tattoos and branded merchandise.
