Upcoming boxing prospect Mbavu Destroyer has revealed that he is training at home using stones as weights as he prepares for his highly anticipated match against Majembe.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Mbavu disclosed that he is currently training solo after failing to secure professional gym support.
Gym Deal Falls Through Over KSh 200,000 Fee
According to the boxer, Nairobi Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria had offered to connect him with a trainer to help sharpen his skills ahead of the bout.
However, the arrangement reportedly collapsed after the coach demanded KSh 200,000 for training services — a figure Mbavu termed unfair and far beyond his financial capacity.
He maintained that while he appreciates Mosiria’s efforts to support him, the cost of professional training remains a major hurdle.
Determined Despite Challenges
Despite the setback, Mbavu Destroyer says he remains focused and determined to step into the ring fully prepared. He has resorted to improvised training methods, including lifting stones at home, to build strength and endurance.
The boxer added that he is still open to partnering with any gym or trainer willing to support his journey at a reasonable cost as he gears up to face Majembe.
His resilience has drawn mixed reactions online, with many Kenyans urging sponsors and trainers to step in and nurture local boxing talent.
