A third-year student at Multimedia University of Kenya is fighting for his life in a city hospital after he was allegedly attacked by his girlfriend, who reportedly scalded him with hot water during a confrontation at his rented house in Umoja 1 Estate, Nairobi.
Valentine’s Eve Turns Violent
Steve Godia claims the shocking incident occurred on the eve of Valentine’s Day after his girlfriend confronted him over suspicions that he was still in contact with an ex-girlfriend.
According to Steve, what was meant to be a calm discussion to resolve relationship differences quickly escalated into violence.
“It was my girlfriend who burnt me because she felt that my explanation about my ex-girlfriend was not enough. Maybe when I spoke, she felt I was being disrespectful,” Godia recounted from his hospital bed.
Police are investigating the case as attempted murder and grievous assault.
Severe Burns and Vision Complications
Steve alleges that in the dead of night, the suspect boiled water and poured it on his face before fleeing the scene.
“The water was superheated to high temperatures. The next morning, my eyes were swollen, my entire face was swollen, I could not see anything. The wounds were aching,” he said.
He sustained severe burn injuries that left him writhing in pain and temporarily unable to see.
CCTV Footage and Suspect at Large
CCTV cameras reportedly captured the suspect leaving the premises moments after the alleged attack. Steve has identified her as Gladwell Kagai, a woman he says he has known and trusted for the past three years.
Despite the matter being reported to police, the suspect remains at large ten days later, leaving Steve and his family anxious for justice.
Alleged Theft of KSh 300,000
Beyond the physical injuries, Steve claims the suspect also stole two of his mobile phones and transferred more than KSh 300,000 from his bank account.
“I realised she had stolen my two phones and transferred all the money I had. I had KSh 318,000 and she left me with KSh 7 only. Though police say they are on the case, I feel like they are slow. I want the suspect to be arrested and presented in court,” he added.
Academic Disruption
The ordeal has also disrupted Steve’s education. The Multimedia University student says he has been forced to miss his exams due to hospitalization, compounding his physical and emotional pain.
As investigations continue, Steve’s family is calling for swift action to ensure the suspect is apprehended and brought before the court.
