Police in Nyamira County have launched investigations into the death of an 18-year-old university student whose body was found at her family home in Ogingo village, Kitutu Masaba Constituency.
According to police and family members, the deceased was a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration at Maseno University. She had returned home a day earlier after completing her examinations.
Her parents, James Mogaka Odhiambo and Vickline Moraa Mogaka, told police that they had left the house earlier in the day to attend a funeral in the neighbourhood. When they returned in the evening, they found their daughter’s body hanging behind the house.
The grieving parents said they had not noticed any signs of distress or unusual behaviour prior to the incident, adding that nothing had indicated their daughter was facing personal or academic challenges.
Officers from the area police station arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The body was removed and taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
