Tension gripped Muthathene village in Igembe South after angry residents stormed a house to rescue a boda boda rider allegedly assaulted by his wife.

Dramatic Rescue

The victim, identified as Daniel Kairithia, was reportedly attacked during a domestic dispute, prompting neighbours to intervene and rescue him from the house.

He is currently receiving treatment at Care Point Divine Hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

Dispute Over M-KOPA Debt

Speaking from his hospital bed, Kairithia narrated that the altercation began shortly after he returned home from work.

According to him, his wife confronted him over an unpaid M-KOPA phone debt.

“She asked me why I hadn’t paid for her M-KOPA phone debt that day, and I told her I had spent the day in the garage and had already sent her the little money I had,” he said.

The situation quickly escalated, with Kairithia alleging that his wife struck him with a piece of wood.

Neighbours Intervene

His cries reportedly attracted the attention of neighbours, who forced their way into the house and rescued him before the situation worsened.

Domestic Violence Concerns

The incident has sparked renewed conversations around domestic violence, with locals calling for calm and urging couples to seek peaceful ways of resolving conflicts.

Authorities are expected to investigate the matter further as the victim continues to recover.
