The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) has suspended a security guard who was captured in a viral video allegedly manhandling a female student at the institution’s main gate over claims of inappropriate dress code.
In a statement released on Friday evening, the university clarified that the guard involved in the incident was deployed by a third-party security service provider contracted by the institution.
“The University wishes to state unequivocally that it does not countenance any form of violence, intimidation, or unprofessional conduct against members of the University community or any other. The dignity, safety, and respectful treatment of our students remain paramount,” the statement read in part.
University Launches Review
CUEA further stated that it has begun the necessary review processes following the incident and is working closely with the security service provider to ensure accountability.
According to the university, the guard has already been suspended as investigations into the matter continue.
“We urge members of the University community and the public to remain calm as the matter is being addressed with the seriousness it deserves,” the institution said.
The incident sparked widespread reaction online after the video circulated on social media, raising concerns about the treatment of students and enforcement of dress code policies within universities.
