Former Ferdinand Waititu has been released from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison after the High Court reviewed his bail terms pending the hearing and determination of his appeal in the KSh588 million graft case.
Waititu secured his release following a court decision allowing him to be freed on revised bail conditions as he challenges his conviction and sentence related to the multi-million shilling corruption case.
The former governor had been serving time at Kamiti Prison after being convicted in the KSh588 million graft scandal linked to irregular tender awards during his tenure at the Kiambu County Government.
His appeal is still before the High Court, which will determine whether the conviction and sentence will be upheld or overturned.
Waititu’s release is temporary and subject to the new bail terms set by the court as the legal process continues.
