Detectives in Migori County have launched investigations into the killing of a fisherman following a violent confrontation on Lake Victoria.
The incident came to light on Thursday after the body of 40-year-old Kennedy Otieno Herman was discovered at Siginga Beach. Police officers who responded to the scene found his body lying on a fishing boat.
Preliminary findings indicate that Herman had gone out fishing earlier in the day in the company of a friend and another man. While on the lake, the group reportedly got into a dispute with other fishermen over ownership or use of a fishing net.
Authorities say the disagreement quickly escalated into violence, with Herman allegedly attacked while aboard another vessel. He sustained a stab wound to the abdomen, which investigators believe was fatal.
The attackers are said to have fled immediately after the incident, leaving Herman fatally injured.
Police processed the scene and later moved the body to the St. Camillus Mission Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
No arrests have been made so far, but police say efforts are underway to trace and apprehend those responsible as investigations continue.
