Humphrey Wattanga has been nominated as Kenya’s High Commissioner to South Africa, just hours after his exit as Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) was announced.
Diplomatic Nomination
Wattanga’s name has been forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and approval before he can formally take up the diplomatic role based in Pretoria.
Exit from KRA
The KRA board confirmed Wattanga’s departure on Wednesday evening, marking the end of his tenure at the helm of the tax authority.
His nomination to the diplomatic post signals a swift transition from public service administration to international representation.
Interim Leadership at KRA
Following his exit, Lilian Nyawanda has been appointed as the Acting Commissioner General.
She is expected to oversee the agency’s operations as the government considers a substantive replacement.
Awaiting Parliamentary Approval
Wattanga’s appointment will now be subject to parliamentary scrutiny, with lawmakers expected to assess his suitability for the ambassadorial role before giving final approval.
