A 22-year-old hotel employee has died after a drowning incident at a hotel swimming pool in Diani, Kwale County.

The deceased, identified as Annaculate Wambugu, was employed as a housekeeper at Diani Gold Sand International Hotel, where the tragedy occurred on Friday evening.

According to reports, hotel management discovered that one of their employees had drowned in a swimming pool located within the hotel compound.

Rescue Efforts Launched

Staff members quickly pulled Wambugu from the water while still alive but unconscious and immediately initiated resuscitation efforts.

An ambulance from Diani Beach Hospital was called to the scene, and medical personnel rushed the victim to the facility for emergency treatment.

Despite efforts by doctors and emergency responders to save her life, she was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary medical reports indicate that she succumbed to oxygen deprivation resulting from the drowning incident.

Police Launch Investigations

Officers from Diani Police Station visited both the scene and the hospital as part of ongoing investigations.

Police established that the deceased was a resident of the White House area in Ukunda and had reportedly been on duty throughout the day before the incident.

Initial findings suggest that after completing her work responsibilities, she may have decided to swim in the hotel pool during the evening hours, leading to the fatal accident.

Body Moved to Mortuary

The body was transferred to Msambweni Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances that led to the drowning. Family members, friends and colleagues have been left mourning the loss of the young hotel worker whose life ended tragically.
