Former Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has secured a new international role after being appointed Executive Vice-President for Advocacy, Government Affairs and Research at the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).

The global tourism organisation announced that Balala will oversee international advocacy efforts, government engagement, and policy research in his new position.

According to the WTTC, the former Kenyan minister is expected to play a key role in strengthening collaboration between governments and the private sector while helping shape global tourism policies and strategies.

Balala is widely recognised for his long tenure in Kenya’s tourism sector, having served as Tourism Cabinet Secretary for several years under former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

During his time in office, he was credited with spearheading tourism recovery campaigns, conservation initiatives, and efforts to position Kenya as a leading global travel destination.

His appointment to the senior executive role at WTTC marks another milestone in his international tourism career and places him at the centre of global discussions surrounding travel, sustainability, investment, and tourism growth.

The WTTC represents major players in the global travel and tourism industry and works closely with governments and international stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism development worldwide.
