Detectives in Kakamega County have launched investigations into the killing of an 87-year-old woman whose body was discovered inside her house under mysterious circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Floridah Halima Masaka, was found dead in her home in Lukume Location, in a case that has left residents shocked and concerned.

According to police, the discovery was made on Monday night after her son visited her home at around 8 p.m. and became alarmed when he found the house locked from the outside with a padlock.

Knowing that his mother had not travelled and sensing something was wrong, he sought help from neighbours. Together, they forced their way into the house to check on her welfare.

Inside, they found the elderly woman lying lifeless on her bed. Investigators said the mattress was soaked in blood, indicating she may have been the victim of a violent attack.

Police officers who processed the scene observed visible injuries on her forehead and the left side of her head, raising suspicions of foul play.

Homicide detectives have since taken over the investigation and are working to establish the circumstances surrounding her death, including identifying possible suspects and determining a motive.

The body was moved to Place M Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to help establish the exact cause of death.

Authorities have urged anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward as detectives continue pursuing leads in the case.

The incident adds to a growing number of murder investigations reported across the country in recent months, prompting renewed concerns over violent crime in some communities.
