Police in Meru County have launched investigations into the death of a 58-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a maize plantation under suspicious circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Susana Mukoiti, was found dead in the Lodwar area of Mutuati Sub-County.

According to police reports, the discovery was made after a resident received a phone call from a neighbour informing him that a woman was lying motionless in a farm. The matter was subsequently reported to authorities.

Investigators who visited the scene found Mukoiti’s body lying on its back inside a maize plantation. Preliminary observations revealed blood stains around her mouth and bruises on both legs, circumstances that have led detectives to suspect foul play.

Police officers documented and processed the scene as part of the ongoing investigation before arranging for the body to be removed.

The remains were transferred to Maua Nyambene Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Detectives are now pursuing various leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any individuals who may have been involved.

No arrests had been reported at the time of the initial investigation, with police appealing to members of the public who may have relevant information to assist with the inquiry.

The case adds to a series of recent homicide investigations reported in different parts of the country, as security agencies continue efforts to combat violent crime and bring perpetrators to justice.
