A family in Garissa County is seeking answers and justice following the tragic killing of their 25-year-old son, Osman Aweis, a Kenyan-American citizen of Somali descent who was allegedly attacked and fatally stabbed during a visit to Kenya.

Osman had reportedly travelled from the United States to reconnect with family and friends in Garissa when the fatal incident occurred in broad daylight at Bula Mzuri village.

Phone Snatching Attempt Turns Deadly

According to relatives and eyewitnesses, Osman was confronted by a group of young men who allegedly attempted to steal his mobile phone.

Witnesses claim that when he resisted the robbery and called for help, the situation quickly escalated.

One of the suspects allegedly stabbed him in the thigh before the group fled the scene, leaving him seriously injured and bleeding by the roadside.

Residents who witnessed the attack were left shocked by the violence, with many describing the incident as a growing sign of insecurity in the area.

Good Samaritan Rushes Victim to Hospital

A Good Samaritan taxi driver is said to have rushed Osman to the Garissa County Referral Hospital in an attempt to save his life.

However, despite efforts to provide emergency medical attention, doctors reportedly pronounced him dead upon arrival.

The young man’s death has devastated his family both in Kenya and the United States, where he had been living before travelling home.

Family Questions Slow Progress in Investigation

The grieving family has expressed frustration over what they describe as slow progress in bringing the suspects to justice.

According to relatives, they have already provided investigators with information they believe could assist in the case, including the alleged suspect’s name, photograph, phone number and social media accounts.

Despite the information reportedly being handed over to authorities, family members claim no arrest has been made so far.

Rising Security Concerns

The killing has sparked concern among residents of Garissa, with many calling for increased security measures and faster action against criminal gangs operating in the region.

Community members say incidents involving violent robberies and attacks have become increasingly worrying, creating fear among residents and visitors alike.

As investigations continue, Osman’s family is urging authorities to act swiftly and ensure those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted.

The tragic death has left relatives mourning a young man whose visit home ended in heartbreak, with many hoping justice will be served.
