Detectives have launched a manhunt for two armed men who stormed a women’s chama meeting in Nairobi’s Saika estate and escaped with cash and a mobile phone.
The robbery occurred at around 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, at a salon where members of the Queen’s Women Chama had gathered for their routine fortnightly meeting.
According to police and witnesses, the two unidentified suspects walked into the salon while the meeting was underway.
One of the men reportedly pulled a pistol from his waistband and ordered the women to surrender their mobile phones and money.
His accomplice, who police said was unarmed, stood guard as the robbery unfolded.
The suspects escaped with a Samsung Galaxy A17 mobile phone belonging to one of the chama members and Sh50,000 in cash that had been placed on a table for the group’s meeting.
Police officers visited the scene shortly after the incident and confirmed the robbery, launching investigations to trace the suspects.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said detectives are pursuing promising leads that could help identify and arrest those responsible.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers also processed the scene, collecting forensic evidence to support the ongoing investigations.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in identifying or locating the suspects to report it to the nearest police station as efforts to bring the gang to justice continue.
